Syawish was elected on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, during a session of the Kurdistan Parliament dedicated to completing the procedures of the opening session of its sixth legislative term and electing the parliamentary Presidency. During the session, Dr. Vala Farid was elected Speaker of Parliament, Ramy Noori Syawish was elected Deputy Speaker, and Mona Qahwachi was elected Secretary of Parliament.

According to local media reports, Syawish received 52 votes, representing the number of lawmakers who participated in the session. He thus became a member of the newly elected parliamentary Presidency, representing the Christian component.

Background on Ramy Noori Syawish

Ramy Noori Syawish is a well-known figure in the district of Ankawa. He previously served as District Commissioner of Ankawa and held administrative responsibilities within the district administration before entering parliamentary politics.

According to information published by Kurdistan 24, Syawish was born in Baghdad in 1985. He works as a legal consultant and is also interested in writing and civic activities. He speaks Syriac, Kurdish, Arabic and English.

Syawish was elected to the Kurdistan Parliament’s sixth legislative term through the Christian component quota seat representing Erbil Governorate, in the elections held in October 2024. He has now gained the confidence of his fellow lawmakers to assume the position of Deputy Speaker.
