GÜTERSLOH, Germany — The premiere
of the film Athro Rhimo (The Beloved Homeland) has been
announced in the city of Gütersloh, Germany. The dramatic feature, directed by
Aziz Saeed and filmed in both Germany and Turkey’s Tur Abdin region, is
scheduled to screen in early February.
The film is spoken in Syriac and
subtitled in German, along with other languages. Its runtime is approximately
110 to 112 minutes.
The story centers on Lenora, a
woman who transforms her life and returns to her homeland to help her son,
Ankido, who is suffering from a terminal illness. Accompanied by an evocative
musical score, the film portrays a mother’s struggle and perseverance for her
child, while also highlighting the culture of the Syriac people and the daily
life of the region and its inhabitants.
The cast includes artists from
the Chaldean Syriac Assyrian community, among them singer Ninib Abdlahad Lahdo,
Linda Hadiko, Ninos Youssef, Yaqoub Kaplo, Teglat Kas Hana, and others.
The opening screening will take
place in Gütersloh on 1 February, with audience entry beginning at 3:00 PM.
