Abc 30 action news
YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (KFSN) -- The search for three hikers
will resume Thursday morning, but Yosemite Rangers are now treating it as a
recovery effort. The three friends went into the water at Vernal Fall, and fell
more than 300 feet into the Merced River.
The victims have been identified as 21-year-old Ramina Badal, an
accomplished musician from Manteca, along with 27-year-old Ninos Yacoub of
Turlock and 22-year-old Hormiz David of Modesto.
All three were reportedly trying to pose for a picture when they went
over the falls. One of the men and the woman crossed a metal barricade. The
woman slipped, the man reached for her and fell in.
The other victim tried to help, but fell into the 317-foot waterfall as
well. They went over the barricade in mid-air. The search and rescue unit
closed the mist trail to Vernal Falls, but it was re-opened Wednesday
afternoon.
The tragedy brings the number of people killed in water accidents in
Yosemite this year to six.
