On June 30, 2015 at the invitation of a group of the Democratic Socialist
parties in the European Parliament, headed by Mr. Joseph Faedon Holtzr member
of the European Parliament. The Chaldean Syriac Assyrian Popular Council
represented by the Messrs Kamel Zumaia, Samir Putros Joda and Adad Zuzu,
attended the conference along with the representatives of the Iraqi components
of Yazidis, Shabak, Turkmen, Mandaeans and Kaka'is, in addition to Mr. Younadam
Kanna secretary of the Assyrian Democratic Movement a representative of our
people in the Iraqi Council of Representatives and Father Emmanuel Youkhana
director of Kabni Organization for humanitarian aid, as well as many of the
activists in the field of human rights and the defense of minority 's rights. The
PC delegation made many interventions concerning the conditions of our people and
their future in Iraq saying that “Causing suffer for the Christians in Iraq is a
systematic process, and what happened on the 10th of June in Mosul, Nineveh
Plain and Sinjar is nothing but a result of the inhumane practices they faced
before and after the fall of the dictatorial regime in 2003, and to find a way
out of this disaster suffered by the minorities, especially our Christian people
we elaborate the follow:
1. The sectarian quotas and the absence of citizenship in dealing with the
Iraqi people.
2. As a result, we are exposed to a policy of deliberate marginalization and
exclusion in all areas of public life.
3. The demographic change operations in the Christian areas, especially in the
Nineveh Plain are still not solved in the Kurdistan Region despite numerous correspondences
in this regard.
4. We claim for an international protection in the Nineveh Plain and Sinjar areas
for the Iraqi components as the only guarantee for the returning of people to
their homes, after they lost hope and were disappointed for not being protected
by anyone.
5. Supporting the establishment of minorities’ councils in coordination with
the EU in order to acknowledge the European Parliament and the international
community with all the risks the minorities face in Iraq.
6. Activating the role of the Iraqi- European Partnership through periodic
review of human rights in Iraq.
7. Activating the ministerial decision on the establishment of a province in
the Nineveh Plain.
8. Rehabilitation of the Yazidis, Christians, Shabak Shiites and Turkmen
Shiites survivors.
9. Supporting the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government politically
and militarily to end the terrorist organizations and the Islamic State of
Iraq.
10. Considering what happened to the Christians, Yazidis and Shabak in the
Nineveh Plain genocide crimes.
Before the end of the conference the participants were distributed to three workshops,
where recaps of the conferees’ demands were presented, and they all centered on
the following questions:
1 - What are the political solutions for the minorities in Iraq.
2 - How can the EU help minorities?
3 - What are the humanitarian steps required of the EU?
It is worth mentioning that Zumaia also presented a written message from the PC
to Mr. Holtzr regarding the status and future of the CSA people in Iraq, a
special file on demographic change operations on the CSA areas and a definition
on Bartella Friends Conference which was held in November 2013, stressing in
his speech that the Christians, Yazidis and Shabak have no hope in returning to
their homes even after the liberalization without an international protection.
Also Mr. Samir Putros handed Mrs. Anna Komish member of the European
Parliament, who chaired one of the workshops, a letter signed by more than forty
parties, foundations and organizations of the Yazidis, Shabak, Mandaeans and CSA
people.
