Mr. Loay Mikhail the Foreign Relations Committee official in the Chaldean Syriac Assyrian Popular Council met in the office of Mr. David Julie, member of the US Congress, with Mr. Tim Medeiros the legislative director of the office; the two sides discussed several issues related to our people. There were talks on the political, security and economic issues facing the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional government, where Mr. Medeiros showed his concern on the Christians and other minorities situation in Iraq, saying that the US President has failed in his policies towards the Middle East and the region as a whole, adding that it is a humanitarian and moral duty that the United States and the international community should protect the minorities in Iraq and Syria, especially the Christians who are most affected in the region.
For his part, Mr. Mikhail touched on the situation and the difficulties experienced by our people and said that the country is going through a financial crisis, especially the Kurdistan Region after a delay in allocating its budget, taking into consideration that the Region is sheltering today more than two million refugees and displaced people, thus this current crisis has affected a large number of the displaced people. He also added that the Congress should take serious and effective steps to address this crisis as well as the liberalization of the Nineveh Plain area so that the Christians return to their areas under the international protection and support, also to enable the Free Nineveh Plain forces to take over the security file in those areas. The two sides also discussed the educational, humanitarian and medical aid issues, and at the end of the meeting Mr. Mikhail thanked Mr. Medeiros for giving him a chance to discuss these issues in the Congress member’s private office.
