The
Canadian American delegation headed by priest Majid Al Shafie, official of the One
Free World Human Rights Organization, accompanied by member of the Popular
Council’s presidency Fahmi Yousef and the official of the Council in Canada Madloum
Marouki, visited the Kurdistan Parliament office in Dohuk province, where they were
received by Dr. Ibrahim Simo member of the Kurdistan Parliament and Dr. Luis Caro
member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives for the Popular Council list. During
the meeting the delegation reviewed its inspection tour to the displaced
families in Erbil and Dohuk, where Al Shafei talked about the suffering of the religious
minorities in Iraq because of the violence committed against them by the Daesh terrorist
organization. Dr Simo appreciated the delegation’s visit to the Kurdistan
Region, saying that their presence is the biggest proof of the stability and security
in the Region. After that the delegation visited the headquarters of the Chaldean
Syriac Assyrian Popular Council in Dohuk and was received by Mr. Fahmi Yousef,
Mr. Marouki and Louay Emmanuel assistant of foreign relations official in the
Council. During the meeting, Mr. Yousef elaborated the history of the Council’s
establishment, which now has members in the Kurdistan Parliament and members in
the Iraqi Council of Representatives; and he added “Mr. Sarkis Aghajan has had
a great merit in the founding of the Council, and he instructed the launching
of the construction campaign, which included the establishment of villages,
churches, monasteries and cultural institutions in the region of Kurdistan, as
the Council now has strong and good relationships with the provincial
government and the federal government”. For his part, Al Shafie praised the role
of the PC, which seeks to install the rights of the Christians in the Kurdistan
and the Iraqi constitutions. The delegation also visited the displaced Christians,
Yazidis and Shabak in the province of Dohuk.
